CPS Service-Learning Student of the Year Award
One student from each of the six CPS high school areas is selected to receive a $500 scholarship for outstanding participation in service-learning. Applications will be available in mid-February. The $500 award can serve as the local contribution from an organization or school and will be matched by the Presidential Freedom Scholarships, provided that the student has earned at least 100 hours of service in the last fiscal year. DePaul Community Service and Leadership Scholarship Program
DePaul offers two scholarships recognizing students with exceptional records of community service. The DePaul Community Service Scholarship (CSS) requires that complete 30 hours of community service each quarter, complete the Community Services Studies minor, and attend quarterly workshops. The Monsignor Egan Hope scholarship is only for City of Chicago high school students and is intended to enable inner-city students from Chicago to earn college degrees. This scholarship is awarded for social activism, leadership, and community service. For information on how to apply, go to www.depaul.edu/admission/scholarships/index.asp.

The Bonner Scholarship
The Bonner Foundation provides four-year community service scholarships to approximately 1500 students (Bonner Scholars) annually at 27 colleges and universities. The scholarship serves those individuals who have high financial need and a commitment to service. It is designed to heighten the overall education a Scholar receives by asking students to engage in ongoing service work and helping them develop the tools and the knowledge necessary to make that work meaningful and lasting. Discover Scholarship Program
Discover Card sponsors the Tribute Award Scholarship Program to applaud exemplary accomplishments and to support continued education and training beyond high school. Up to 10 scholarships of $40,000 each are available. Who is Eligible for the Tribute Award? Any current high school junior who meets the following qualifications is eligible:

  • Is enrolled in an accredited public or private high school in the United States
  • Has at least 2.75 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale for the 9th and 10th grades
  • Demonstrates accomplishments in community service and leadership and has faced a significant roadblock or challenge.

Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship
The Comcast Foundation has launched the Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program nationwide to acknowledge exemplary youth in Comcast communities. Students must be nominated by the school principal or guidance counselor. Qualified students should demonstrate a strong commitment to community service and display leadership abilities in school activities or through work experience. Principals and home-school instructors may e-mail comcast@applyists.com to verify school eligibility status and to request program materials. Each year, 1,000 high school seniors in Comcast communities will receive $1,000 scholarship awards.

Kohl’s Kids Who Care Program
Kohl's Kids Who Care® Program recognizes young people who volunteer in their communities. To date Khol’s has recognized more than 11,000 kids and awarded more than $2.2 million in scholarships and prizes to young people ages 6-18. To be considered, the student’s actions must be described in detail and should document efforts that are above and beyond what is normally expected of a child his or her age. The volunteer activities should have occurred in the past 12 months.

The Tylenol Scholarship
The Tylenol Scholarship program awards ten $10,000 scholarships and 150 $1,000 scholarships to students for excellence and leadership in community service. The scholarships are intended for students pursuing a career in healthcare. The program is administered by Scholarship America, Inc., and the deadline is April 30 of each year. Best Buy
Best Buy Children’s Foundation grants scholarships to students who have good grades and outstanding community service. Best Buy awards over $2 million in scholarships to more than 1,300 students annually. Three graduating high school seniors in each U.S. Congressional District and the District of Columbia are selected to receive a scholarship of $1,000 or $2,000. Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on community service and academic achievement and must be entering an accredited U.S. university, college or technical school in the fall immediately following their high school graduation. The application deadline is February 15. Recipients will be notified by Scholarship America, administrators of the program. Go to www.bestbuy.com and click on community relations then scholarships.

Gloria Barron Prize
The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes honors outstanding young leaders who have made a significant positive difference to people and our planet. Their leadership and courage make them true heroes — and inspirations to us all. Each year, the Barron Prize selects ten winners nationwide. Half of the winners have focused on helping their communities and fellow beings; half have focused on protecting the health and sustainability of the environment. Students must be nominated by an adult for this award. The nomination deadline is April 30. Go to the website at www.barronprize.org for more information.

Disabled American Veterans Jesse Brown Scholarship
The Disabled American Veterans organization presents scholarships to volunteers who have served at least 100 hours within the previous calendar year with a VA Hospital. The scholarship may be applied toward tuition at universities, colleges, community colleges, vocational schools, or other accredited schools. A. Patrick Charnon Memorial Scholarship
The Center for Education Solutions offers a scholarship of $1,500 per year to students who have been admitted to or are enrolled in a 4-year college or university. Applications are due March 31 of each year. Students must write an essay to explain how community service experiences have shaped their lives and how their studies will enable them to build communities in a manner consistent with Pat Charnon's values of compassion, tolerance, generosity and respect. Nordstrom Scholarship Program
Nordstrom offers a $10,000 scholarship to students residing in Illinois who plan to attend a 4-year college or university. Students must apply by May 15 of their junior year. Eligible students must have and maintain a 2.7 GPA, have participated in community service activities, plan to apply for financial aid, and maintain a 2.7 GPA while in college. Toyota Community Scholars
Toyota grants 100 scholarships to eligible high school seniors worth $10,000 and $20,000. Scholarships are administered by the Educational Testing Service. One student may be nominated per high school. More information will become available at www.toyota.com/about/philanthropy/education/scholarships/.

AXA Achievement Scholarship
One winner from each state, Puerto Rico, and Washington D.C. is selected by Scholarship America for an award of $10,000. In addition, ten of those recipients are national winners and recieve an additional $15,000. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of personal qualities including:

  • Ambition and drive
  • Determination to set and reach goals
  • Respect for self, family and community
  • Ability to succeed in college

Discus Awards Scholarship
The Discus Awards Scholarship honors all-around high school students. Eligible students must deomonstrate excellence in three areas, not necessarily including GPA. Scholarships are awarded monthly in the amount of $2,000. To apply, visit www.discusawards.com/scholarship-info.
